Nahla Al Fahad

Nahla Al Fahad My project is a music video for Shaymaa Sulaiman's song Bel Hatha Alhub, which explores the emotional journey of love and separation. The video delves into the heartache and longing that comes with losing someone you love, visually capturing the freedom and emotional disconnect that follows. Through a blend of artistic, cinematic shots, we aimed to evoke the raw emotions of the song, creating a powerful narrative that resonates with anyone who's experienced the complexities of love and loss.

What are your ambitions with your project?

With this project, my ambition is to create a visually compelling narrative that connects deeply with audiences on an emotional level. I want the music video for Bel Hatha Alhub to not only amplify the song's message of love and separation but also to showcase the power of storytelling through visuals. I aim to push the boundaries of creativity, using the music video as a platform to explore new artistic directions and techniques, while also expanding my work to reach a wider audience and make a lasting impact in the music and film industries.

What locations did you choose for your project? And why?

The music video for Bel Hatha Alhub was filmed in both high-end studios and outdoor locations in Tbilisi, Georgia. We wanted to create a dynamic contrast between the controlled, intimate studio shots and the raw, open-air scenes, which reflect the emotional journey of love and separation. The studio provided the perfect environment for detailed, close-up shots that capture the intensity of the story, while the outdoor locations—set against Tbilisi's stunning landscapes—added a sense of freedom and isolation, visually echoing the themes of the song. It was a blend of creativity and technical precision to bring the narrative to life.

What expression elements did you use in your project?

In this project, I used a range of expressive elements to convey the emotional depth of love. Visually, we focused on lighting, color grading, and framing to create mood shifts that mirrored the song's emotional arc—starting with warmth and intimacy, and gradually moving to cooler, more isolated tones to reflect the pain of separation. I also employed symbolic imagery, such as empty spaces and lingering close-ups, to enhance the feeling of loss. The movement of the camera played a crucial role in creating a sense of distance and disconnect, while the pacing of the video aligned with the song's rhythm, building tension and release at key moments. These elements worked together to immerse the audience in the emotional journey of the song.

How would you characterize your work?

I would characterize my work as emotionally driven and visually immersive. I focus on storytelling that delves into the complexities of human emotions, whether it's love, loss, or personal transformation. My style blends strong visual aesthetics with deep narrative layers, aiming to connect with audiences on both an emotional and intellectual level. I believe in creating art that feels authentic and genuine, while also pushing the boundaries of creativity and technical execution. Each project is an opportunity to experiment, challenge myself, and explore new ways of telling meaningful stories.

For what group of spectators is your music video targeted?

The music video for Bel Hatha Alhub is targeted at a broad audience, particularly those who appreciate emotional and cinematic storytelling. It resonates with viewers who have experienced the pain of love and separation, as well as anyone who enjoys powerful visuals paired with evocative music. The video speaks to a universal theme of human connection and heartbreak, so it appeals to a wide range of ages and backgrounds, both within the Middle East and globally. Ultimately, it's for anyone who seeks a deeply emotional, visual experience.

What motivated you to become a filmmaker?

My motivation to become a filmmaker stems from a deep fascination with storytelling and its power to evoke emotion, challenge perspectives, and connect people. From a young age, I was captivated by how films could bring human experiences to life in such a vivid and impactful way. I realized that filmmaking offered me a platform to explore complex emotions, cultural narratives, and personal stories, all while creating something visually and emotionally compelling. The ability to share stories that resonate on both an individual and collective level drove me to pursue this path, and it continues to fuel my passion today.

What topics do you like to explore in your work?

In my work, I'm drawn to exploring themes of human emotion, relationships, and personal transformation. I'm particularly interested in stories about love, loss, and the complexities of identity—how we navigate our inner worlds and connect with others. I also enjoy examining cultural nuances and societal shifts, especially in the context of how people adapt and grow. Ultimately, I seek to tell stories that are both intimate and universal, capturing the emotional truths that bind us all, no matter where we come from.

What genre do you like to shoot and why?

I'm drawn to genres that allow for emotional depth and visual expression, particularly drama and music videos. These genres give me the opportunity to explore complex human emotions, relationships, and personal struggles. I enjoy the challenge of creating a narrative that feels both authentic and visually compelling, using cinematography to enhance the emotional tone of the story. Music videos, in particular, are exciting for me because they blend visual art with music, creating a dynamic space to experiment with storytelling and aesthetics. I gravitate toward genres where the emotional connection with the audience is at the forefront.

What project would you like to shoot one day, and what would it be about?

One project I would love to shoot one day is a film that explores the intersection of tradition and modernity within a rapidly changing society. It would delve into the lives of individuals navigating cultural shifts, focusing on the tensions and beauty found in balancing heritage with progress. This story could be set in the UAE's culturally rich environment, offering a nuanced portrayal of personal identity, family dynamics, and the pursuit of self in the face of societal expectations. I'm passionate about telling stories that reflect real human struggles while also celebrating the resilience and adaptability of people as they shape their futures.

What do you do if you're not thinking about a movie, work, shooting?

When I'm not focused on a movie or work, I enjoy traveling and exploring the world. Experiencing new cultures, landscapes, and meeting different people helps me broaden my perspective and fuels my creativity. It's a way to recharge, relax, and gain fresh insights that often inspire new ideas for future projects. Traveling keeps me connected to the world, offering new experiences and stories that can deeply influence my work as a filmmaker.

What projects do you plan to shoot in the future?

In the future, I plan to shoot a variety of exciting projects, including drama series and feature films. I'm currently reading new scripts and exploring fresh narratives that delve into complex human experiences. I'm also eager to continue working on music videos, where I can experiment with visual storytelling and music-driven concepts. Additionally, I'm excited to explore new creative directions, pushing boundaries in both storytelling and cinematography. Each project will be an opportunity to experiment with different genres and themes while continuing to evolve as a filmmaker.
